Year in Review....

Well, 2011 is almost over and it has been an interesting year to say the least. Many groundbreaking news stories took place throughout the year that either we found interesting or sickening. Personally, I set goals for myself to achieve before I turned 30 this year and accomplished them, turned 30, and married the love of my life all within the same year!!! I know, I know, kind of sappy and mushy coming from the "weekly annoyances" guy but hey, maybe I'm not completely dead inside!! Without further ado, I'd like to review 2011, "My Two Cents" style.......

U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is shot in Tuscon, Arizona.

Ted Williams, (homeless golden voice guy) is recognized while panhandling and given a job. The Uconn men's basketball team goes on an incredible

postseason run to win the national championship. "Winning"!! The Boston Bruins win the Stanley Cup. "Winning"!! The Dallas Mavericks get the monkey off their back and finally win an NBA title. "Winning"!!! The St. Louis Cardinals go on an incredible late season run to win the world series. "Winning"!! The Green Bay Packers go on an incredible late season run and win the Super Bowl. Weinergate. One of the worst earthquakes ever recorded hits Japan recorded at 9.0 killing reportedly over 10,000 people. Hurricane Irene. The "Royal Wedding". My wedding. The "Terminator" admits to having a love child with a maid. Gay marriage becomes legal in New York. Rupert Murdoch, the king of tabloids, gets accused of phone hacking to get information for stories. History was made yet again by the New York Yankees as Mariano Rivera records his 600th save and Derek Jeter becomes the first Yankee to record 3,000 hits. Amy Winehouse passed away. The Kardashian-no talent- assclowns.... Enough said there!! The most intriguing and talked about creation since electricity is launched (OBSTRUCTED VIEWS)!!!!!

Herman Cain was not able to secure the presidential nomination. NFL Lockout. NBA Lockout. Occupy this, occupy that, get a job, how about that???? The Penn St football program deals with the accusations and the scandal involving head coach, legendary Joe Paterno and former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. The Casey Anthony trial delivers a verdict that angers many and caused many to forget the big picture, which was that the prosecution "fumbled" for lack of a better term and "Sandusky'd" the nation.

I saved the best for last.....

THEY GOT HIM!!!!!! The capture of and execution of Osama Bin Laden by Navy Seal Team #6 is a historic moment of 2011 that you will
always remember where you were when it happened. Just like we try to do here at Obstructed Views, we try to tie sports stories and everyday life stories together. On the night everyone heard of the death of Bin Laden, I was fortunate enough to be one of the 45,000 baseball fans in attendance at the Sunday Night Baseball game between the Mets and Phillies in Philadelphia. The game was aired nationally on ESPN and when the news of his death

made its way around the stadium, the chants of USA USA USA were deafening throughout the stadium and on television. Being one of the few people to experience that thrill and that history making event is something I will never forget. It was a moment where sports and "real life" shared the spotlight and made history. In case you missed it, here is a link to a video from that night....
